Millet Technology Workshop 2026 Organised by ICAR-IIMR, Hyderabad

5 January 2026, Hyderabad

With the objective of taking millet-based scientific innovations directly to farmers and stakeholders, scientists from the ICAR–Indian Institute of Millets Research, Hyderabad, actively participated in the Agriculture and Horticulture Festival Udyan Utsav 2026 today at Rashtrapati Nilayam, Hyderabad. As part of the festival, ICAR–IIMR organized a technical workshop focusing on millet production, processing, and enterprise development.

The workshop comprised well-coordinated technical and interactive sessions that equipped participants with practical knowledge across the millet value chain. Experts from ICAR-IIMR shared expert knowledge and field-based insights through their sessions. The workshop was organized by National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), and effectively supported farmers, FPOs, and entrepreneurs in making informed, market-oriented decisions and adopting sustainable millet-based enterprises.

The sessions enhanced participants’ understanding of climate-resilient production practices, improved varieties, and efficient crop management in sorghum, pearl millet, and small millets. In addition, participants were exposed to modern processing and value-addition technologies, opportunities for product diversification, and entrepreneurship-oriented approaches such as aggregation, branding, and market linkages, thereby encouraging the adoption of scientific, commercially viable millet enterprises.

The workshop attracted farmers, Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), agri-entrepreneurs, students, and visitors from across the region, who actively engaged with the scientists. Participants benefited from direct interaction with experts, gaining practical insights into adopting improved technologies, reducing production risks, and exploring market-led approaches in millet cultivation and processing.

ICAR–IIMR’s participation in Udyan Utsav 2026 significantly contributed to strengthening awareness on the nutritional, economic, and environmental importance of millets. The initiative facilitated effective knowledge exchange, encouraged the adoption of scientific and entrepreneurial approaches, and motivated farmers and FPOs to diversify into value addition and agribusiness. Overall, the workshop reinforced the role of millets as climate-resilient crops and highlighted their potential in enhancing sustainable livelihoods and income security for farming communities.
