The Division of Food Science and Postharvest Technology, in collaboration with the ZTM-BPD Unit of ICAR–Indian Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-IARI), organized a six-day Agripreneur Training Program on “Recent Avenues in Food Processing for AgriTech Startups” from 8–13 September 2025.

Inaugurating the program, Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director, ICAR-IARI, highlighted the transformative potential of AgriTech startups in enhancing farm productivity, reducing post-harvest losses, and ensuring fair and transparent market access for farmers. He emphasized that such innovations would contribute significantly to a sustainable and resilient agri-economy. On the occasion, a Training Manual for food entrepreneurs and startups was released.
The valedictory session was graced by Dr. Viswanathan Chinnusamy, Joint Director (Research), ICAR-IARI, who underlined the critical role of food processing in strengthening food and nutritional security, improving farmers’ income, and supporting national economic growth.
The program drew enthusiastic participation from 33 candidates (30 male and 3 female) representing 12 states, with diverse educational and regional backgrounds. The curriculum covered emerging food processing technologies, including extrusion, nanocellulose extraction, cold plasma, microwave-assisted processing, ozonation, and UV processing offering promising applications for improving food safety, quality, and nutrition.

Expert lectures, hands-on training, and interactive sessions were conducted by faculty from the Division of Food Science and Postharvest Technology. Participants also visited a food processing unit at Aterna, Sonipat, gaining field-level exposure to industrial applications of modern processing technologies.
