ICAR-CCARI Director Illuminates Post-Independence Agricultural Achievements at Goa College

A special lecture titled ‘Glorious Journey of Indian Agriculture Post-Independence’ was organized at the Goa College of Agriculture today for the benefit of students and faculty.

Dr. Parveen Kumar, Director, ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa, provided a comprehensive overview of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and traced the transformative journey of Indian agriculture since independence. He highlighted the tremendous growth in food grain production, which has not only kept pace with but surpassed population growth, thereby ensuring national food security.

Dr. Kumar shared comparative data from 1950–51 to the present, showcasing the significant strides made in the production of cereals, pulses, oilseeds, millets, horticultural crops, milk, and other key commodities. He also emphasized major agricultural milestones such as the Green and White Revolutions, alongside broader national developments in infrastructure, literacy, and agricultural exports.

The session concluded with an engaging interactive discussion, during which students posed pertinent questions on diverse topics including khazan land cultivation, pulses and millet production, and natural farming practices.

The lecture was attended by around 100 students and 10 faculty members from Goa College of Agriculture.
