As part of the Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh Pakhwada 2025, ICAR–Indian Agricultural Research Institute, Jharkhand, organised a Kisan Mela-cum-Sangoshthi today at Daurwa village, Barhi block, Hazaribagh. The programme aimed to empower tribal farmers by enhancing awareness, promoting scientific agricultural practices, and strengthening linkages with institutional support systems.

The keynote address emphasised the need for farmers to adopt modern technologies, participate in institutional training programmes, and transition from traditional farming to more entrepreneurial approaches. Farmers were encouraged to view themselves as “scientists of nature” and to leverage government schemes and scientific knowledge for improved productivity and livelihoods.

The programme also featured an agricultural exhibition showcasing improved technologies suitable for tribal farming communities. Exhibits included high-yielding and climate-resilient crop varieties, livestock production technologies, soil health management practices, water conservation techniques, biofertilizers, and value-added agricultural products. The exhibition aimed to create greater awareness among tribal farmers and rural youth on available innovations.

Scientists from ICAR–IARI conducted interactive technical sessions covering improved crop production practices, soil and nutrient management, climate-resilient agriculture, pest and disease management, livestock rearing, fodder production, water conservation, millet cultivation, and opportunities in agro-based entrepreneurship. During an open discussion, farmers sought guidance on crop diseases, input management, animal health, and market linkages, which were addressed by subject experts.

The Institute also expressed its intention to adopt Daurwa village for targeted interventions to enhance livelihood opportunities and income generation. More than 200 farmers participated in the event, which concluded with the distribution of vegetable seed kits to tribal farmers, reaffirming the commitment to practical support and inclusive rural development.
