Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Morigaon, functioning under ICAR–Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Zone VI, Guwahati, had the honour of hosting the visit of His Excellency the Hon’ble Governor of Assam, Shri Laxman Prasad Acharya, in coordination with the District Administration, Morigaon. The visit was aimed at reviewing grassroots-level development initiatives with special emphasis on agriculture, rural livelihoods, and convergence of government schemes.

During the visit, the Hon’ble Governor inspected the Amrit Sarovar developed at the KVK Morigaon campus under the flagship Mission Amrit Sarovar of the Government of India. He appreciated the initiative for its focus on water conservation, ecological restoration, and community participation. An exhibition showcasing profitable agricultural technologies, climate-resilient practices, and innovations in allied sectors was also organized at the campus, highlighting the pivotal role of KVK in technology dissemination and farmer empowerment. Various line departments participated by displaying their ongoing schemes and programmes for the benefit of farmers and rural stakeholders.
A review meeting of district-level officers was chaired by the Hon’ble Governor to assess the progress of developmental activities in Morigaon district. The meeting was attended by Shri Pijush Hazarika, Minister, Government of Assam, along with senior district and departmental officials. Key issues related to agriculture, infrastructure development, welfare schemes, and inter-departmental coordination were discussed in detail.
As part of the “Gaon Mein Governor” programme, the Hon’ble Governor interacted directly with beneficiaries of various government schemes, obtaining first-hand feedback on their implementation and impact at the grassroots level. He also visited the toria seed production plot at the KVK farm and underscored the importance of quality seed production in enhancing crop productivity and farmers’ income. Additionally, he inaugurated the Germplasm Display Unit at the KVK campus, which serves as an important resource for showcasing crop diversity and promoting improved varieties among farmers.

The programme was led by the District Commissioner, Morigaon, Smt. Anamika Tiwari, with active participation from the Chief Executive Officer, Zila Parishad, Shri Ananta Kumar Gogoi, and other district officials. The entire event was coordinated by the team of KVK Morigaon under the leadership of Dr. Rijusmita Sarma, demonstrating effective convergence between ICAR, district administration, and line departments for strengthening agricultural extension and rural development initiatives.
