Multilateral and Regional Engagement

BRICS. The MoU establishing the BRICS Agricultural Research Platform was signed at the BRICS Summit in Goa on 16 October 2016. The platform's secretariat is in New Delhi and is managed by DARE. Under India's BRICS chairship in 2026, the 16th BRICS Agriculture Ministers' Meeting was held in Indore on 12–13 June 2026.

G20. During India's G20 Presidency, ICAR hosted the Meeting of Agricultural Chief Scientists (MACS) in Varanasi in April 2023.
QUAD and IBSA. A Memorandum of Cooperation among Australia, India, Japan and the USA (2024) supports joint research using AI tools under the AI-ENGAGE initiative. A trilateral MoU with Brazil and South Africa (2006) covers agriculture and allied fields.

Regional groupings. DARE–ICAR is a permanent member of the Governing Body of the SAARC Agriculture Centre, Dhaka, and ICAR institutes conduct SAARC training programmes. DARE coordinates India's cooperation with ASEAN in agriculture and forestry; India co-chaired the 8th ASEAN–India Ministerial Meeting on Agriculture and Forestry on 25 October 2024, India hosted the 9th ASEAN–India Ministerial Meeting on Agriculture and Forestry on 8-9 Sept 2026. India hosted the 2nd BIMSTEC Agriculture Ministers' Meeting on 10 November 2022, which adopted the Plan of Action on Strengthening BIMSTEC Agricultural Cooperation 2023–2027.

International organisations. ICAR has agreements with ICGEB, CABI, INBAR, the World Vegetable Center, APAARI, the Asia and Pacific Seed Alliance and the Borlaug Institute for South Asia.
